Rockin’ the night away with the Basingstoke Lions
On Saturday night ABBA Sensation, the superb ABBA tribute band, played their 70s and 80s programme for the Basingstoke Lions Club at Queen Mary’s College main hall. And a Sensation they certainly were.
They gave the audience a really exciting selection of hit songs from Madonna, the Bee Gees, B52, The Human League, Michael Jackson, Gloria Gaynor, Bonnie Tyler, Credence Clearwater Revival etc. etc. all delivered with a flair and pizazz that would have delighted the original composers and artist.
The enthusiasm and energy that the Group bring to their performances is highly infectious. The audience was with them from the moment they appeared on stage. Fortunately, with our previous experience of the Group’s performances, we had organised the hall so that there was plenty of room for those who were so minded to get up and dance. Most were!
During the interval Lion President Dennis Crouch presented a cheque for £1500 to Pauline Williamson representing the RADCAN charity which is raising funds for a special piece of equipment which will enable cancer sufferers to be treated locally instead of having to travel to Southampton or Guilford for treatment. Travel is hell when you’re ill.
After a short break the group returned to the stage with a bang. The girls in that group are fit, fit, fit!
Now we’re preparing for our next show which is FOREVER QUEEN at the same venue on 23rd November.
Guess what their final song will be – the football fans favourite???? Details on www.basingstokelions.org.uk
But just before that, on the 16th, we’ve got another of our fun Quiz
