Keen fundraiser takes the plunge for Cats Protection
A brave fundraiser from Old Basing in Basingstoke aims to raise money for local cats by taking part in a daring skydive with the Red Devils.
The Red Devil 15,000 feet Tandem Skydive takes place on 23 August over Salisbury Plain and offers a unique and challenging opportunity for adrenaline junkies looking to complete their own skydive while raising vital funds for Cats Protection.
Anne Taylor is particularly looking forward to the challenge and aims to raise a minimum of £750 for Cats Protection’s Basingstoke & District Branch.
Anne has been Treasurer for the Basingstoke & District Branch of Cats Protection for more than 6 years, so she knows about all the bills and expenses.
Anne said: “I’m a keen supporter of Cats Protection’s Basingstoke & District Branch and wanted to help raise funds for them to continue their great work. They do a great job in caring for cats and taking the plunge with a skydive is a great way to support them in raising money. This will be my first skydive and a big challenge for me.
“At Basingstoke, we don’t have a centre, we’re all volunteers working from our own homes with a network of fosterers, so every penny raised goes directly to the care and upkeep of the cats in our care.”
Gayna Ballard, Branch Co-ordinator of Cats Protection’s Basingstoke & District Branch said: “We are very grateful for the support we’re receiving from Anne. Her big challenge will make a huge difference to local cats.”
The Red Devils are one of the world’s most famous parachute display teams and they only instruct tandem skydivers for a limited period of time during their busy schedules.
The flight to jump altitude takes around 15-20 minutes – enough time to take in exhilarating views of the Salisbury countryside. Participants will experience 45 seconds of freefall before reaching speeds in excess of 120mph and finally opening the parachute at around 5,000 feet. Here, they’ll experience a five minute descent, complete with spectacular views and the cheers of fellow jumpers, Cat Protections supporters, friends and family.
