Hatch Warren W.I. welcomed three new potential members to our first meeting of the Autumn on 5th September. Our guest speaker was Peter Hull MBE ‘Gold is more than just a word’ a very inspirational talk by Peter who was born with out legs and short arms. His parents did not put him in cotton wool but let him find his own way to be able to move. Peter was encourage to swim at an early age, which found him winning his first medal at the age of ten. He went on to try many sports and raced in the London Marathon, table tennis and snooker and to this day enjoys wheelchair rugby. 1984 saw Peter compete in the Para games in Los Angeles. Having been asked to be a Paralympians he would wake at 4 am and be in the pool by 5.30 am for training each day, this paid off when Peter won three gold medals at the Para Olympics in Barcelona. His motto in life is hard work, training, team work, a very determined man.
Members visited the Winchester Discovery Centre for the exhibition of the ‘Sistine Chapel’ with lunch. Lady Carnarvon will give a talk at the group meeting in October and we will have a trip to the Christmas Market in Salisbury as well as the Autumn meeting at the Anvil where a tribute to Sir Tom Jones will entertain us. Hampshire Federation has a Christmas wreath making day and a Christmas curiosities afternoon with tea for members to attend.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday 3rd October where we will enjoy another evening with Lara South, from Lara’s Beauty Workshop in Oakley.
