Hatch Warren Runners – Painting Basingstoke Blue and Yellow
A lovely sunny day, 22 May saw Basingstoke Town Centre painted blue and yellow by Hatch Warren Runners. The event is a 5k that starts in Festival Square and runs through Festival Place, Top of Town, past the new Waitrose, up to Basing View and through Eastrop Park. There are only limited places for this event and it sells out quickly but of the 300 finishers, 112 were our very own Hatchies. The following Sunday saw the female members of the club head off to Purbrook for their 10k Ladies event. A beautiful race through undulating countryside and, with no men able to compete, the ladies can come home in the leading positions!
10th June saw 110 HWR plus friends and families head off to Wasing Park in Aldermaston to join Endure 24. No event compares to this one for challenge, camaraderie, and getting dirty. The course is a 5 mile trail race and it runs from midday Saturday to midday Sunday with solos, pairs or teams completing as many laps as possible over the 24 hour period – all day, all night. Teams camp together, eat together, wake each other in the middle of the night to run and generally have a huge amount of fun. With 18 teams, we had a number of teams finishing in the top 10 in their categories and a special mention to our duo team, Rob Kershaw and Greg Haynes who clocked up 55 miles (11 laps) and 65 miles (13 laps) respectively.
A reminder that HWR will host our own 10k trail race in Farleigh Wallop on 25 September 2016. The race will start near the Farleigh Wallop Club and the course will take in the beautiful countryside and woodland trails around the villages of Farleigh Wallop, Cliddesden and Eliisfield. In true HWR style, all proceeds from the event will be donated to charity. We’d love to see as many local people as possible. Visit www.hwrunners.co.uk for more information.
HWR meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:15pm with runs going from the Portsmouth Arms and the Co-Op in Beggarwood. Members meet, warm up and then break into groups depending on what distance and pace they plan to run.
