Hatch Warren Runners
The frustrating and fabulous month of February
The insanity of the weather in February almost reflected the impending insanity of Hatchies trying to follow their training plans for spring events with snow and ice on the ground! Some of us climbed the walls indoors; some of us took to the fields and some of us to the treadmills. For the first time in 10 years Basingstoke parkrun was cancelled and then a few days later, we were running in warm and record breaking temperatures! Basingstoke and its kooky microclimate certainly keep us on our toes.
There were two significant local races in February – the Bramley 10 mile/20 mile and Winchester 10k. Hatchie turnout at both was amazing. Both races have significant enough undulations, so kudos to every single Hatchie that got to the finish line.
This month we held an all abilities track night in conjunction with Alton Sports. This was good wholesome fun and enabled club members to try and test some new ranges of running shoe.
Forget The Academy Awards…we had our very own The Hatchie Awards!
It was our Annual General Meeting on 26th February where we looked back on the club’s year, celebrated collective and individual achievements and made plans for the club’s future.
For outstanding performance and contribution to the club, Darrel May and Rebecca Vincent received thanks and trophies from the committee as a show of appreciation.
We celebrated the end of the Southern Cross Country League (SCCL) and the winners of our HWR Cross Country challenge. Winners for the ladies were: 1st Lisa Hotten; 2nd Ilona Vajnar Duncan and 3rd Jane Ford Ladenburger. Winners for the gentleman were: 1st Simon Parker, 2nd Adam McCartney and 3rd Paul Stewart. Three outstanding ladies, Lisa Hotten, Cerys Byrne and Ilona Vajnar Duncan, completed all six cross country races – congratulations to everyone!
Our Hatchie cross country captains this year were Rory Horseman and Ruth Hayward. They are two of the most inspiring and down-to-earth members of our Hatchie family. Their support, time and enthusiasm were invaluable in what we achieved as a club this year at SCCL. Bring it on for cross country season 2019!
