Hatch Warren Phoenix FC – Spring update
The Abacus Employment Services sponsored Hatch Warren Phoenix FC have been as busy as ever this season, not only adding additional teams with the Phoenix Fire U10s, Flares U13s the youngest U7s have been enjoying their first season under the suitable name as the Heat.
Manager Gareth Cottrell has taken ownership of the U7s and has seen a tremendous amount of effort and smiles from the young upstarts. “Having an older son playing in the Hatch Warren U8s I wanted to become more involved with the club. My daughter has been enjoying her football since day one as an under 7s as have all of the children and they are becoming a great little team.” Under the stewardship of club secretary Mark Burton-Pye and Chairman Daren Bavister the Basingstoke club were recently awarded the much coveted FA Charter Standard. “this is yet again testament that the club is pursuing the right way of doing things, the FA Charter Standard is a kite mark that says the environment created is a safe place for children to come to play and learn no matter their age or ability with likeminded and qualified coaches” Mark Burton-Pye club secretary. “We are already making inroads into achieving the next stage of FA Standard, the recognition gained is terrific for all involved with the Phoenix” Daren Bavister – Club Chairman and Flames team manager.
Achieving the FA Charter Standard has held the Hatch Warren club in the right light as they have been the only Basingstoke side accepted onto the Hampshire FA mentor scheme. This gains the club’s coaches enviable access to mentoring and club level seminars and development sessions, with everyone benefiting from access to a wealth of training and guidance it is the children participating that ultimately benefit.
Spring will see the opportunities for young children in Basingstoke to open up again, two new ventures are in the pipeline with the next intake of the Legend Alliance sponsored ‘Intro to Soccer School’ for children in school year R&1 as well as the new U9/10 Phoenix Development Centre. There are many children in Basingstoke who are talented but haven’t been noticed by the professional clubs and are only exposed to football at the grass roots level. There are many commercial organisations offering additional coaching either as a franchise of a professional club or as an entity on their own. They have been inherently expensive programmes to enter and can be prohibitively expensive for many to afford, the Phoenix centre is there to offer equivalent coaching syllabus but without the expensive outlay, allowing development of talented children beyond the grass roots game.
