Former mayor’s fund awards cash boost to community café in Beggarwood
The Hatch Warren & Beggarwood Community Association has received a cash boost thanks to a former Basingstoke Mayor’s Fund.
A cheque was presented to the organisation by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Councillor, Dan Putty JP. The funding has been awarded from Cllr Putty’s Basingstoke & Deane Community Endowment Fund, managed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF). The fund was established when Cllr Putty served as Mayor of Basingstoke from 2013 to 2014 and it has continued to grow over time, enabling Cllr Putty to award a total of £1,941 this year to benefit community groups in the area.
Cllr Putty said: “I am absolutely delighted to award this grant to the Hatch Warren & Beggarwood Community Association, it is great to see that a small amount of funding can make such a big difference in supporting local people. The organisation is utilising their grant to purchase kitchen essentials for the café area, enabling services to expand in an important community hub where people can come along to meet new people and make new friends, particularly if they live alone. The community in Hatch Warren and Beggarwood is really prospering thanks to the work of the staff and volunteers at the centre.”
HIWCF is an independent charitable foundation and the largest grant maker to specialise in awarding grants across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. During 2021, 483 grants totalling £1.85 million were awarded to support local charitable and voluntary groups.
