Consultation starts on the plan for the future of the borough
Residents are being urged to comment on the draft Local Plan, the document that will guide planning decisions in the borough over the next 15 years, in a consultation running until Friday 4 October.
Once formally adopted the Local Plan will be the key document that will guide how all future planning applications will be determined. It contains policies on where new development, new homes and new business premises, will be permitted, as well as policies protecting existing communities and the countryside.
There will be exhibitions during the consultation period, some local locations are:
• Wednesday 11 September from 2pm to 8pm at Sherfield Park Community Centre, Chineham
• Friday 13 September from 2pm to 8pm at Bramley Village Hall, The Street, Bramley
• Wednesday 18 September from 2pm to 8pm at the Ridgeway Centre, Buckskin, Basingstoke
• Monday 23 September from 9am to 5pm at the Civic Offices, London Road, Basingstoke
The plan allows for 748 new homes per year to be built up to 2029 to meet the borough’s needs, primarily around Basingstoke, where the need for housing is greatest and development can be supported by services and facilities. Lower levels of development have also been focused in the settlements of Bramley, Kingsclere, Oakley, Overton and Whitchurch. Greenfield housing sites proposed in the draft Local Plan are:
Swing Swang Lane,
approximately 100 homes
Kennel Farm, for approximately 250 homes
Razors Farm, approximately 420 homes
North of Popley Fields,
approximately 450 homes
Redlands, approximately 150 homes
Cufaude Farm, for approximately 390 homes
A site east of Basingstoke for
approximately 900 homes
Manydown, approximately 3,080 homes

approximately 1,000 homes.
