Basingstoke NeighbourCare
Basingstoke NeighbourCare, are a local charity who this year are celebrating 25 years of working in Basingstoke. They provide the following services:
Transport
They offer car transport to the following: Doctors; hospital or other medical appointments; as well as to shops, clubs and more. This is run on a suggested donation basis for the trip, making it a more affordable option, they also accept HCC travel vouchers.
Befriending Scheme
A Befriending scheme is available to help combat loneliness in those who are housebound and living on their own. They match people up with a volunteer Befriender, who then provides a regular weekly visit for a chat over a cup of tea.
Community Cafés:
Church Cottage – Tuesdays 10:30am to 12:30pm
Hill Rise Hall, Brighton Hill – Wednesday 10:30am to 12:30pm
The Community Cafés are well worth visiting, they have a warm, friendly buzz about them and are a great place to pop along to. Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone to meet up with, there are ‘Chatter and Natter’ tables to welcome you and connect you with others, hosted by some really friendly people. Maybe you enjoy a game of cards, dominos or something similar, then they have just the thing for you with the games table. And then what about a good book to take home to read? They also have a book exchange.
The Cafés, which are supported by Hampshire County Council, give older members of the local community the opportunity to meet others. They have a lovely selection of cakes, pastries, toasted tea cakes, and light snacks, as well as hot and cold drinks all at very reasonable prices. Do pop along and meet the warm, welcoming team of volunteers and sample some of the lovely cakes on offer.
