Basingstoke Blooming again
Basingstoke in Bloom organisers are hoping for a bumper crop of entries this year. Run by volunteers, the competition aims to encourage residents, communities and businesses to enhance the appearance of their local environment, bringing people together to take pride in their place. Chair Tanya Ball said: “Last year saw a great response, and we are inviting budding gardeners, schools, shop owners, pub landlords and resident groups to take part. There are three competitions for best front garden, best photographs of the borough and the best primary and junior school container gardening and we hope to see even more people getting involved in 2013.”
Anyone living in the borough can enter their front garden, pub garden or shop front by 22 June. With judging taking place between 18 to 25 July, the categories are looking for the best: single hanging basket or container; small front garden of less than 10 metres square; medium or large front garden over 10 metres square; container (front) garden;environmental/wildlife garden; community garden or commercial garden. With a closing date of 22 May, the schools’ competition is for a well-grown container, flowers or vegetables, judged during National School Grounds Week in June. The photographic competition, which closes on 4 July, encourages local amateur photographers of all ages, no matter how skilled or experienced, to capture fantastic images of plants, wildlife and landscape in the borough. The categories are plant portrait; landscape; wildlife or ‘macro’
