News from Cranbourne – June 2017
School days are always so busy! Our recent newsletter is full of reports of educational visits, sporting achievements, not to mention preparation for examinations.
Our 50th celebration on Saturday 22 July 2017 should take all ex-Cranbourners back to their own school days and we are now asking for your memories. The first people in contact with us remembered how the first weeks of Cranbourne had just one entrance and only a few members of staff, the swimming pool without a roof and “lots of laughter”.
Do you have your own story to tell? If so, please contact us by email at 50years@cranbourne.hants.sch.uk
For those of you who would prefer you could write to us or telephone my PA, Susan Sayers on 01256 868605.
We are very excited to share some of our plans for Saturday 22 July 2017. The gates will open at 2.00 pm with an official opening (hopefully with balloon release) at 2.30 pm. There will be an arena on the front field with various demonstrations and fun activities going on throughout the afternoon. At 6.00 -8.00 pm there will be a concert featuring our students and staff – past and present.
During the day there will be the opportunity to be taken on a tour of the school and we hope to display photos and memorabilia from Cranbourne in the past. We would like to display ‘A walk through history’ and are asking any ex-students and staff if they would be willing to complete a form – ‘Where are you now?’ We will then take the information from it for our display. It would be great if we could have a section for each leavers’ year – from 1971 onwards! People could then see what everyone is up to now. Not sure how achievable but we want to try! Would you be willing to complete a form? PIease email 50years@cranbourne.hants.sch.uk to receive a template.
A selection of refreshments will be available throughout the day together with lots of things to entertain you; local crafts, inflatables, sporting events, music and lots more. Tutor groups will be running stalls/activities and there will be a raffle – any money we raise from the day will go towards a permanent structure for the students – perhaps seating area, outdoor table tennis table. The students will be able to help choose.
A working group is meeting every Thursday at 3.30 pm to plan the event. Please do let us know if you have any ideas/suggestions or would like to be involved with the planning. Updates will be given on Cranbourne’s official facebook page, twitter and via our website.

It has become very clear that Cranbourne holds a very special place in many people’s hearts and still remains at the centre of its community. We are looking forward to an amazing celebration on 22 July 2017 and hope that many of the local community will join us!
